Christian Lorraine specializes in the hand cleaning of oriental rugs but that’s not all we do! We can also clean hooked, braided, needlepoint and many kinds of machine made rugs!

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot clean the following kinds of rugs: viscose, rayon, nylon, jute, sisal or other sea grasses, seamed rugs, irregularly shaped/cut to fit rugs, custom sized and bound domestic, furs, hides, leather or skins. Please give us a call if you are unsure. We are also unable to clean rugs with any amount of blood in them.

We specialize in the removal of pet urine, treatment for fire and water damage, and the cleaning of silk rugs. We also offer moth proofing, stain shielding, and cleaning or replacement of padding.

PICK-UP AND DELIVERY SERVICE
Christian-Lorraine Oriental Rugs offers pick-up and delivery to most areas in the region. The transportation fee includes both pick-up and delivery and is a flat fee that covers any number of rugs and/or pads you choose to send to us. We will move most kinds of furniture with the exception of pianos, pool tables, beds with a motor mechanism and similarly over-sized, fragile or over-filled items. If you have a sectional sofa, please ensure that the sections are uncoupled before our staff arrives.

The standard transportation fee is $70.00 for the metro Richmond area. For areas outside the metro area, please see chart below. Star indicates that transportation fee may change depending on actual travel time or if additional staff are required. NOTE: There will be a service charge of half the transportation fee for same day cancellation of deliveries.

Our standard cleaning includes dust and grit removal with our beating process, a full wet wash with a mild detergent, spot stain treatments, and fringe cleaning.

Rugs with fire or water damage, heavy traffic and soil may require a double wash or Extra Dirty wash.  In addition to the same services included in the standard cleaning, the extra dirty wash allows for a second full wash and additional spot treatment. The extra dirty wash also includes an additional deodorizing step.

Silk and cotton pile rugs require several extra steps in the cleaning and finishing process in order to restore the pile’s shine and softness.

Pet accidents and the accumulation of dog body odor  are common problems and can be addressed first by running cold water through the rug for an extended period of time followed by an application of acetic acid and a deodorizer. These steps are in addition to the regular soap and water wash. We offer two levels of pet treatment depending on the level of soil. The prices listed above are in addition to the standard cleaning.

PLEASE NOTE: Urine stains are usually permanent and may lighten but typically do not come out completely.  Urine from animals or humans in a rug can break down the dye. Urea is a main component in the dye process, and is used to make the fibers receptive to the dye. When urine accidents occur, the urea in the urine opens the fibers again and increases the risk of colors migrating. As part of our pet treatments, we treat the rug with diluted acetic acid in order to help close the fibers, but this does not guarantee the colors will not break during the cleaning.

Moth proofing is recommended for rugs in low traffic areas or for rugs with any portion covered by furniture that is not moved for regular vacuuming. Wool moths will lay their eggs in dark undisturbed areas and it is the hatched larvae that are the most destructive, remaining in the rug until they mature. Our moth proofing is a non-toxic, odorless, zinc-based product that acts as a deterrent to both moths and carpet beetles and is applied to the front and back of the rug at the end of the cleaning process. The product will not change the feel or appearance of the rug. NOTE: If you have active moths in a carpet, we require a SLA pesticide treatment at check-in or pick-up.

Stain shield is recommended for light colored rugs, rugs in high traffic areas or in places where food or beverage spills may be an issue. The stain shield is a water soluble product that allows liquid stains to rest on the surface for several minutes minimizing permanent staining if the spill is cleaned up immediately. Stain shielding also forms a barrier against traffic dirt, minimizing permanent greying of the surface due to regular use. The product will not change the feel or appearance of the rug.

We do also wash rug padding. We can only wash synthetic felt pads with a rubberized backing. If you aren’t sure what kind of padding you have we can help determine that with a few simple questions.
