Christian Lorraine specializes in the hand cleaning of not just oriental rugs but also hooked, braided, needlepoint and many kinds of machine made rugs.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot clean the following kinds of rugs: viscose, rayon, nylon, jute, sisal or other sea grasses, seamed rugs, irregularly shaped/cut to fit rugs, custom sized and bound domestic, furs, hides, leather or skins. Please give us a call if you are unsure. We are also unable to clean rugs with any amount of blood in them.

Our process is a full wet wash cleaning done by hand. Please see our cleaning process page for more detailed information and pictures. We also specialize in pet urine removal, fire and water damage, and silk rug cleaning. We also offer moth proofing, stain shielding, and cleaning of padding.

Our standard cleaning includes dust and grit removal with our beating process, then a full wet wash with a mild detergent, spot stain treatments, and fringe cleaning.

Christian-Lorraine Oriental Rugs offers a pick-up and delivery service. We can come to your home to pick up the rugs, clean them in our plant located at 214 East Franklin, then deliver the rugs back to you.

The standard delivery fee is $70.00 for the metro Richmond area. For areas outside the metro area, please see chart below. Delivery fee may change depending on actual travel time or if additional staff are required.

Rugs with fire or water damage, heavy traffic and soil may require a double wash or extra dirty wash.  The extra dirty wash will include all of the same services as the standard cleaning but the body of the rug will be washed by hand twice.

The extra dirty wash is $3.00 per square foot if we pick up and deliver the rug with a minimum of $55.00 per rug and is discounted to  $2.75 per square foot if the rug is brought in and picked up by you at our location with a minimum charge of $50.00 per rug.

Silk and cotton rug cleaning requires several extra steps in the cleaning and especially the finishing process.

Silk and cotton pile wash is $3.25 per square foot with a minimum charge of $60.00 per rug if we pick up and deliver the rug and is discounted to $3.00 per square foot with a minimum charge of $55.00 if the rug is brought win and picked up.

Pet urine/feces/dog odor  is a common problem and can be removed by running cold water through the rug for an extended period of time. We also treat the rug with an acetic acid and a deodorizer. We offer two levels of pet urine treatment depending on the level of soil. The prices listed below are in addition to the standard cleaning.

For a FAKO treatment $1.50 per square foot with a minimum charge of $20.00 per rug. The rug will be flushed with water for up to 3 hours.

For a BAKO treatment $3.00 per square foot with a minimum charge of $40.00 per rug. The rug will be flushed with water for 24 hours.

PLEASE NOTE: Urine stains are usually permanent and may lighten but typically do not come out completely.  Urine from animals or humans in a rug can break down the dye. Urea is a main component in dying wool and opens the fiber to accept the dye. When urine accidents occur the urea in the urine opens the wool fiber again and the dyes in the rug are susceptible to running and migrating. We do treat the rug with a diluted acetic acid to try to help close the fiber, but is not guaranteed to prevent the color from breaking.

Moth proofing is recommended for rugs in low traffic areas or rugs that have large pieces of furniture covering areas. Wool moths will lay their eggs in dark undisturbed areas. The hatched larvae are the most destructive and will remain in the dark undisturbed area until they mature. Our moth proofing is a no odor zinc based product and is a deterrent. The moth proofing is applied to both front and back of a clean moth free rug. The zinc makes the wool taste bad to the moth, thus deterring them from chewing on your rug.

Moth proofing treatment is $.50 per square foot with a minimum of $10.00 per rug.

If you have active moths in a carpet a pesticide will need to be used. We offer a SLA pesticide treatment at $5.00 for small rugs, $10.00 for medium size rugs, $15.00 for large rugs, and $20.00 for extra large rugs.

Stain shield is recommended for light color rugs or rugs in high traffic areas. The stain shield is a water soluble product that allows liquid stains to bead up for several minutes and forms a barrier against traffic dirt.  Liquid stains will eventually soak in as the stain shield is water soluble.

Stain shield treatment for pile rugs (one sided) is $.70 per square foot with a minimum of $12.00 per rug

Stain shield treatment for flat-woven rugs (two sided) is $.90per square foot with a minimum of $14.00 per rug

We can wash certain kinds of padding if it has become stained or soiled. We can only wash synthetic felt pads with a rubberized backing. If you aren’t sure what kind of padding you have we can help determine that with a few simple questions. Please feel free to give us a call.

Pad wash  is $.85 per square foot when the pad is picked up and delivered and is discounted to $.60 per square foot when the padding is brought in and picked up by you. Minimum charge for washing pad is $14.00
